Portugal and Mozambique to sign cooperation deals   [ 2010-03-02 ]

Maputo, Mozambique, 2 March – Nine cooperation deals between Mozambique and Portugal are due to be signed at the end of talks included in the official visit by Portugal’s prime minister to Mozambique, Mozambican daily newspaper Notícias reported.

As part of the visit Maputo will host a business seminar involving economic agents from both countries, and partnership deals in the banking and renewable energy sectors are also due to be signed.

According to the schedule of the visit, Portuguese prime minister, José Sócrates and his Mozambican counterpart Armando Guebuza will meet in private before joining their respective delegations for the final part of talks, which will end with the signing of several agreements, including a memorandum of understanding on setting up bilateral summits and an agreement related to budgetary aid for the 2010/1013 period.

Agreements will also be signed to double a credit line, a protocol of cooperation between the Lisbon Academy of Sciences and its Mozambican counterpart, as well as a general technical and scientific cooperation protocol.

Sócrates’ schedule also includes travelling to the town of Songo in Tete province to visit the Cahora Bassa Hydroelectric Dam, as well as the Republican Assembly and the employment and Professional Training Centre in Maputo.
