Dodoma, Tanzania, 5 March – The African division of British oil and gas group BP has announced it will give up its business in five African countries to focus on Mozambique and South Africa, according to news agency UPI.
Following a “strategic review” of the refinery and fuel sales business, BP Africa informed the governments and workers in Namibia, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia and Botswana it planned to sell its interests in those countries.
In Tanzania, for example, BP Africa had a share of 35 percent of the petrol station market and a 70 percent share of the aviation fuel market.
Saying that from now on the company would concentrate its activities in Mozambique and South Africa, the chief executive of BP Africa gave assurances that “BP is and will continue to be focused on Africa.”
