Luanda, Angola, 15 Jul – Angolan railroad company Caminhos-de-Ferro de Luanda (CFL) is due Thursday to carry out and experimental link using a cargo train between the municipality of Viana (Luanda) and the town of Dondo (Kwanza Norte), CFL’s head of operations said Wednesday in Luanda.

Aurélio Russo told Angolan news agency Angop that the train that would take the journey, following another carried out by officials and technicians from the company last month, would be made up of a cargo train, with eight trucks, which would set off from kilometre 30, in Viana, passing through the localities of Catete, Maria Teresa and Zenza do Itombe.

The CFL head of operations added that the tests that had already been carried out showed that the railway had appropriate conditions, after having been totally rebuilt, and also said that the journey would be to consolidate and line up the railroad.

Recently, the board of CFL carried out an experimental trip between Viana (Luanda) and Dondo (Kwanza Norte) and visited the stations of Catete, Barraca do Zenza do Itombo and Dondo, built as part of the refurbishment and modernisation of the rail facilities destroyed during the Angolan civil war.

The Luanda railroad was opened in 1909 covering a total of 479 kilometres, including small branch lines. (macauhub)
